My T-SHIRT Memories - Part 10 (Kids Moments)

Part 10 of My T-SHIRT Memories is related to my two beautiful kids - my son, Jan Geoffrey or Geof and my pretty daughter, Julia Corazon. There are many moments with the kids that you can read in this blog.

Ateneo Flying High 150. This shirt is a souvenir during the 150 years of Ateneo de Manila. It was kite flying day for the grade school students. Geof made his own kite and learned to fly a kite at the ADMU grounds. I remember my first experience of flying a kite when I was also in grade school at Don Bosco Academy, Pampanga. I was a boarder at the house of my Nacpil cousins at Bacolor, Pampanga. There was kite flying and I flew a kite. There was even a kite fighting where you try to destroy a kite on air. I remember my kite has the caption "USA." I enjoyed the experience that's why I encouraged Geof to join the kite flying at Ateneo. We did more kite flying at UP campus later. There was a Father and Son Camping when Geof was on Grade 4 in 2010. The lesson in this bonding between dads and sons is "ENJOY ONE'S COMPANY EVERYDAY."

My Little Girl Rocks.  This shirt has a pair, "My Daddy Rocks." The event was a Father and Daughter Day at Miriam College. No mommies were invited. There was a performance by the kids in honor of their dads and an exchange of letters expressing each others feelings and dreams. A very touching and memorable event. My little girl, "Juwa"now a very pretty lady really rocks!

Rock Art rocks!

Our first rock art products" "Star Face" by Julia & "Lady Bug" by Andy
Apple gave a set of acrylic paint and a canvas to me encouraging me to start painting on my birthday last year but I found no time and inspiration. My cousin, Ramil, brought a half sack of rocks supposedly for Apple for our garden. While browsing at Book Sale, I found a book on "Rock Art!" and I was inspired to try this craft. So this summer break, Julia and I tried rock art using the rocks in our garden and the unused acrylic paints. Rock art is fun and keeps you busy. However, it requires patience and some basic skills especially when you need to draw circles and fine lines. Painting with acrylic is not a problem since you can always repeat the process by overlaying to improve the design. What's nice with rock art is that your product can be good souvenirs to give away or even sell. Rock art really rocks! :-)

Toys 4 Us: Kids and Adults

Toy collection is one hobby that kids should pursue. At their young age, this is the time where they receive various types of toys (some expensive, some cheap) during their birthdays and Christmas. They should preserve their toys especially the collectors' items. In the future, these toys become rare and cost much. There are toy and antique collectors who buy old and used toys for their collections. If you own a very rare old toy, you might hit a jackpot at selling it to these collectors.

Geoffrey, our son, collects toy cars - tomica, hot wheels, match box and lego. He has a framed box of toys which serves as a decor in his room. Geof has Lego toys but he disassembles them and create his own like airplanes, ships, cars, etc. So what he has are collection of Lego blocks - waiting for Geof or Julia to be transformed into a beautiful contraption.

At Shiroi Koibito Park's Chocolate Factory in Sapporo, Japan, at the second floor of the Chocolate factory, there is a toy museum where old and collectors' toys are displayed. You will see both traditional (toys made of wood) and modern Japanese toys (e.g. Mazinger Z robots, Hello Kitty, etc.. Western toys (e.g. Star wars) are also displayed. Indeed, toys are for us to enjoy. Kids enjoy playing with them. Adults love collecting them and reminds them of their youth. We should appreciate the toys given to us - keep them for your collection or share them to those in need. Have fun with your toys!

Easy Art Lessons by Fernando Sena

Geof and his art work (top, right), "Fruit Stand"
Fernando Sena delivers his lessons at UP Vargas Museum
Graduation Picture of UP Vargas Participants - June 2, 2013
Fernando Sena is a known painter who conducts art workshops. Lola Cons was one of his students. This summer, Geoffrey enrolled at one of the summer workshops of F.Sena Easy Art Lessons held at UP Vargas Museum. Attending his workshop is really informative - he really presents step by step the art of painting from drawing simple shapes and objects, to shading and then using color like pentel pen, pastel and water color. I am not a participant but with the short period I was observing the lessons, I also learned  a lot and tried to follow his drawing tips and techniques.

Geof loves sketching specially technical objects like airplanes, tanks and warships. Now with the lessons from Prof. Sena, he learned to draw and paint other shapes like flowers, fruits, simple objects and even faces. The art workshop consists of eight sessions plus a team session where the participants are grouped into ten members and they create a group painting. After the tedious and creative sessions, they had their graduation at the Philippine Heart Center last June 2, 2013. The students from five years old to senior citizens received a certificate and medals for their outstanding work during the workshop. For only P4,000.00 for eight sessions, you will learn the basics and with patience and practice, you will become a successful artist.

Thank you Fernando Sena for your untiring dedication to promote painting to all.

Zoobic Safari

Zoobic Safari by Geof

5 May 2013. Our summer trip to Subic inlcudes the Zoobic Safari. First, we saw a lot of birds and farm animals. Second, we took a train that brought us to the many sections of the zoo. The first stop was a close encounter with tigers. We went in a jeep and saw them up close. The handlers also fed them meat. The next stop, we saw where all the tigers were being held. For the third stop, we saw an Aeta dance ritual. Then we saw an exhibit of many animal skins and hides. Finally, we walked over a bridge overlooking a pond full of crocodiles. Even though it was hot that day, I still had a fun experience there.
